Who wants to be the Disgo king?

How much would you expect to pay for an Android tablet? £400? £350? How about £149? That's what Play.com is currently charging for the Disgo 7900 tablet, making it one of the cheapest ten-inch tablets you can buy.

So is it any good? Yes and no. You can't make a £150 tablet without cutting a few corners, and Disgo have cut some pretty big ones: that ten-inch screen may deliver 1024x600 pixels, but it's a resistive, not a capacitive, touch screen. That means lots of poking and prodding, and no multi-touch.

What about the rest of the specs? There's a respectable 2.1MP camera, integrated Wi-Fi, a 1GHz processor, 256MB RAM, it supports up to 32GB of storage via MicroSD cards (a 2GB one is included). It runs Android 2.2, aka Froyo, has twin USB ports and a mini HDMI port.

Let's face it, we're in Tesco Value tablet territory here: Android 2.2 isn't the tablet-focused version of Android, and the combination of a 1GHz processor and 256MB of RAM means performance isn't going to be described by anyone as nippy. Resistive touchscreens aren't as fun on your fingers as the more common and more expensive capacitive ones, and you're not going to get iPad 2 build quality, style or performance for around one-third of the price.

That doesn't mean the Disgo isn't worth considering, though. If all you want to do is tweet from the sofa during X Factor finals or check the odd website during the ad breaks, £150 isn't a lot to spend on a tablet - and saving £250 on the price of a premium tablet means many people will be willing to forgive a lot of cut corners. Nevertheless, we'd recommend trying one for yourself before shelling out any of your hard-earned cash.
