It hasn’t been a great year for HTC. As its most recent financial results demonstrate, it’s being squeezed not just by Apple but by its rival Samsung, which usurped it as king of the Android smartphones, and year on year revenues are down 48% with profits down 79%

2012′s barely begun and the price of tablets is already plummeting. RIM’s ongoing woes mean that its BlackBerry PlayBook is cheaper than ever at just £169 for the entry-level 16GB model, although be careful – that price is only in certain shops, such as Dixons, and other retailers are still charging significantly more

Good news for Android fans: a whole bunch of Android updates are heading your way. Google’s been busy rolling out new versions of its operating system to hardware firms, and it’s even managed to find the time to make one of its own products tablet-friendly.

Earlier this year, we predicted that HTC’s secret Puccini tablet would be a ten-inch Honeycomb job with a dual-core processor. The rumoured June release date has been and gone, but it looks like the rest of our predictions were correct: details of the Puccini have leaked, and it looks pretty interesting.

We’ve known about the Asus Eee Pad MeMO tablet for a while, but it’s evolved since Asus first announced it: the ultra-portable tablet now boasts a 3D display and stylus support, making it stand out from the rest of the Android tablet crowd.

HTC’s new Flyer tablet has something a bit different: digital ink. The optional (£47.99) Scribe add-on, which HTC calls a “magic pen”, is a pressure-sensitive stylus that’s designed to supplement the Flyer’s touch screen. The idea is that the Scribe offers something you can’t get from other tablets: precision.

While HTC is busily promoting its seven-inch HTC Flyer Android tablet, details of a bigger, better bit of kit are starting to emerge. According to internet rumour sites a new tablet, codenamed the HTC Puccini, will launch later this year.
