Tablets are knocking the stuffing out of newspapers, their printed siblings are losing money hand over fist. That’s led one US newspaper group to ask an interesting question: will people pay for newspapers if they get a free tablet?

The tablet story so far has been largely about ARM: the Cambridge firm’s chip technology powers most of the big-name tablets, including Apple’s iPads. As you can imagine, Intel isn’t too chuffed about that – not least because Windows 8 is going to work on ARM tablets too.

Tablets will be everywhere this year. Where 2010 was largely about tech firms promising tablets that didn’t turn up, 2011 is when the big hitters will actually ship. So what’s worth getting excited about?
