Motorola’s mystery tablet: is a seven-inch Xoom looming?

In February, Motorola boss Sanjay Jha promised that a more "fun" and "portable" Motorola Xoom was on the horizon - and it looks as if the bloggers at ThisIsMyNext.com have a video of it. A mole has given the site some video footage of a new, significantly sleeker Motorola tablet, and it could well be the next generation Xoom.

You might not think that you can get much information from a blurry bit of video, but you'd be surprised: ThisIsMyNext has managed to divine quite a lot of detail from the indistinct pics - although for now the site hasn't shared any of the actual footage, so we'll have to take their word for it that it's not just an out of focus shot of an Acer Iconia.

The design is more rounded and much slimmer than the current Xoom - closer to the Photon 4G smartphone, which is curvier and more attractive than recent Motorola kit - and it has a large white border that makes it look very different from the current crop of seven-inch tablets. There appear to be both Micro-USB and Micro-HDMI ports on the case, the screen looks like it has a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, and it appears to be running Android.

The details certainly sound like a newer, sleeker Xoom, and if that's what it is then its release should be imminent: Motorola's Jha said the more fun and portable Xoom would be released later this year, and there's not much of this year left. We've no idea what the price will be - Motorola hasn't confirmed it even exists yet, let alone how much it'll cost - but if Motorola can make it significantly cheaper than its bigger Xoom brother it could well have a hit on its hands.
