It hasn’t been a great year for HTC. As its most recent financial results demonstrate, it’s being squeezed not just by Apple but by its rival Samsung, which usurped it as king of the Android smartphones, and year on year revenues are down 48% with profits down 79%

Rumour sites reckon they’ve got the inside scoop on HTC’s quad-core tablet, which is codenamed the HTC Quattro. The tablet, which we’re expecting to see in February 2012′s Mobile World Congress before a springtime release, will be the company’s first quad-core tablet

Dr Dre – who, like Dr Fox, isn’t a real doctor – seems to have a new role: iPad killer. He’s not doing it personally, though: he’s doing it via his hardware business. Dre’s Beats Audio systems are already a familiar sight in laptops from HP, and now the technology’s coming to smartphones and tablets.

Earlier this year, we predicted that HTC’s secret Puccini tablet would be a ten-inch Honeycomb job with a dual-core processor. The rumoured June release date has been and gone, but it looks like the rest of our predictions were correct: details of the Puccini have leaked, and it looks pretty interesting.

HTC’s new Flyer tablet has something a bit different: digital ink. The optional (£47.99) Scribe add-on, which HTC calls a “magic pen”, is a pressure-sensitive stylus that’s designed to supplement the Flyer’s touch screen. The idea is that the Scribe offers something you can’t get from other tablets: precision.
